ST. MARTIN CHURCH IN ŠMARTNO

There where the church St. Martin in Šmartno stands today, has already stood in late ancient times a early Christian church. Even in the early Middle Ages, the church stood here, but is mentioned not earlier than 1387. The folk tradition says that at St. Martin there was a former parish, but does not endorse any written source. The main altar is the work of Aleš Janežič (1850), the side ones of Peter Janežič (1769). The fresco on the arch is painted by Janez Mežan from Brnik.
