Themed trails
Discover the historical and cultural heritage of the Cerklje valley through the stories of Ivan Hribar, the legendary Mayor of Ljubljana, and Jože Plečnik, the world-renowned architect.
The Hribar Trail is a digital themed trail linking eight sights in and around Cerklje, bringing the history of the area, its notable figures and its rich cultural heritage closer to visitors in an engaging way.
Pride of place on the trail goes to Ivan Hribar, former Mayor of Ljubljana, diplomat and politician, who had close ties with Cerklje. He spent his summers here, and today his life and work are commemorated by Hribar Villa, which he bought in 1886 and later converted into his summer residence. Along the trail, you will also learn about his connection with Jože Plečnik, as well as other stories and figures that shaped the development of Cerklje.
The trail takes you past Adergas, Strmol Castle, Jenko’s Lime Tree, the Church of the Assumption of Mary, Plečnik's funeral chapels, the Borštnik House, Hribar Villa and the Memorial Park of Notable Figures of Cerklje. Each of the eight stops reveals its own piece of history and introduces visitors to the cultural and architectural highlights of the area.
As you explore, you are accompanied by the digital character Mr Unesco, who guides you from stop to stop and tells you about the points of interest and stories of each sight. At the end of the trail, you can test your newly acquired knowledge in a quiz.
The trail is suitable for self-guided exploration and can be completed on foot, by bike or by car.
You will need a smartphone to explore the trail digitally.
