Clean nature cannot be taken for granted. We all contribute to preserving it – residents, tourism providers and visitors alike. The best waste is the waste that is never created, so we invite you to think, even before your visit, about how you can reduce the amount of waste you produce and to act responsibly during your stay.
DON’T LITTER IN NATURE
Waste does not belong in forests, on mountain pastures, along trails or in car parks. Even organic waste, such as fruit peel or food scraps, can have a negative impact on the natural environment and on the behaviour of wildlife.
Litter in nature does not just spoil the look of the landscape – it can also endanger animals, pollute the soil and water sources, and diminish the experience for other visitors.
We kindly ask you to:
- take all your waste with you or dispose of it in the bins provided,
- follow the principle ‘What I bring with me, I also take back down to the valley’ on hiking and cycling trails,
- not throw cigarette butts away in nature,
- reduce your use of single-use products,
- respect the fragile mountain and natural environment.
Through their actions, every individual can contribute to a cleaner and more pleasant environment for everyone.
FOLLOW THE ‘LEAVE NO TRACE’ PRINCIPLES
When exploring nature, we follow the principles of responsible visiting:
- We take back everything we bring with us.
- We do not leave waste along trails, on mountain pastures or in car parks.
- We respect plants and animals and do not disturb them.
- We use marked trails and existing infrastructure.
- We leave nature in the same or better condition than we found it.
REDUCE AND SORT YOUR WASTE
Waste management in the Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem is the responsibility of the public utility company Voka Snaga, which provides a separate waste collection system and operates the collection centre and the recycling points.
When sorting waste, please follow these rules:
- PACKAGING – plastics, metal packaging and drinks cartons, (opens in a new tab)

Reuse what we can
Before we throw something away, let us consider whether we can:
- reuse it,
- repair it,
- give it away,
- swap it,
- or could someone else use it?
By reusing items, we extend the lifespan of products and reduce both the consumption of raw materials and the amount of waste.
WHERE CAN YOU DISPOSE OF WASTE?
Several recycling points have been set up across the Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem, where visitors and residents can drop off separately collected waste.

REDUCE YOUR USE OF PLASTIC
We invite you to reduce your use of single-use plastics during your visit and to choose more environmentally friendly alternatives.
We recommend:
- using reusable bottles,
- using reusable shopping bags,
- avoiding plastic cups, cutlery and other single-use packaging,
- drinking high-quality tap water,
- buying local and seasonal products with less packaging,
- using products that can be reused or recycled.
By reducing the amount of waste and unnecessary packaging, we help to preserve the natural environment and reduce our impact on the climate.
REDUCE FOOD WASTE
Preventing food waste is also an important part of sustainable behaviour.
Let’s shop thoughtfully, store food properly and use leftovers in our next meals. If you cannot finish everything at a restaurant, ask for a container to take home – edible food is not waste.
By reducing the amount of food we throw away, we protect the environment, reduce resource consumption and support a more sustainable way of life.
