Dolga Njiva pasture (Krvavec)
The Dolga Njiva mountain pasture (planina) lies on the extensive grazing grounds below Veliki Zvoh and Vrh Korena.
Hiking
Koren pasture is still a working mountain pasture (planina), lying between Veliki Zvoh and Košutna. At the edge of the pasture, which offers a fine view, there is a large watering place for livestock, while in a small hollow in the middle of the pasture stands a herdsman’s hut that was renovated some years ago.
1. From the Ljubljana–Jesenice motorway, take the Vodice exit, then continue to the first set of traffic lights in Vodice, where you turn left towards Cerklje na Gorenjskem and Brnik.
2. From the Jesenice–Ljubljana motorway, take the Kranj vzhod (Kranj East) exit, then continue towards Brnik, Komenda and Mengeš.
When you reach the main roundabout in Spodnji Brnik, continue towards Cerklje and the Krvavec ski resort. At the far end of Cerklje na Gorenjskem, leave the main road, which continues towards Velesovo and Visoko, and bear slightly right onto the road towards the Krvavec ski resort. You then come to the village of Grad, where signs for Ambrož pod Krvavcem direct you right onto a steep asphalt road (straight on are the Krvavec cable car valley station and Štefanja Gora). When the gradient of the steep road eases slightly, you reach a junction where you continue left towards Ambrož pod Krvavcem (straight on are the villages of Ravne, Apno and Šenturška Gora). A little further on, the road briefly drops slightly, then climbs across slopes that at times offer quite extensive views. Higher up, you reach Ambrož pod Krvavcem, where you keep to the left of St Ambrose’s Church and the Pr Ambružarju tourist farm. Beyond the tourist farm, the road enters the forest and climbs through it all the way to Jezerca pasture, where there is a large, well-kept car park.
From the car park, take the road towards Koren pasture. The road then leads you through an underpass to a quarry, where you leave it. Continue climbing along a pleasant but faint mountain path that runs along the edge of the pasture fence. The path, which becomes more distinct, then leaves the grazing land of Kriška Planina and enters terrain covered with dwarf pine. After a short climb, the path brings you to a fine viewpoint with a lovely view of the Korošica valley. Further on, the path begins to descend more steeply, and after a few minutes you are already 60 m lower. The path then levels out and is joined from the right by the path from the valley mentioned above. Next, cross a strip of forest, after which the path starts climbing again. During the climb, an unmarked path branches off to the left towards the Razor saddle; continue along the marked path, which after a few more minutes brings you to the southern part of Koren pasture. The path then descends past the livestock watering place to the herdsman’s hut on the pasture.
You can extend the walk to the following destinations: Košutna pasture (20 min), Mokrica (1 h 30 min), Košutna (50 min), Kompotela (1 h), Vrh Korena (1 h), Kalška Gora (3 h 5 min), Kalški Greben (2 h 30 min)
Drive to Kamnik and follow the road onwards towards the Kamniška Bistrica valley. Just a few dozen metres before the cable car valley station, a forest road branches off down to the left into the Korošica valley. The road then crosses a bridge and shortly afterwards reaches a junction, where you continue straight on. The road then brings you to another junction. From here you have two options: 1. Turn left across the bridge and climb the road. Follow this road to a small car park at Markova Raven. You will recognise Markova Raven by the small car park beside the road, a mountain torrent and a wide cart track that heads up to the left, while the road starts to descend steeply. 2. Continue straight on and climb the road, which brings you to the next junction. Take the left-hand road, which becomes very steep, and follow it to a car park on a left-hand bend, from which a wide cart track branches off straight ahead. Park in the car park beside the road.
From the car park, take the wide cart track, which after a few dozen metres brings you to another car park. Continue straight across the car park and keep climbing along the cart track, which turns left. After a few minutes’ walk the track forks; take the marked track on the right. Follow it for a few minutes to the point where a footpath towards Krvavec and Koren pasture branches off to the right. The turn-off is not specially signposted, so follow the waymarks carefully. The path then climbs quite steeply up the right-hand side of the torrent. It then brings you to a fork, where you continue right in the direction signposted ZA VRATA. The path gradually passes into more open forest, so in places you cross a small meadow or even a short scree slope. The views also become ever more beautiful. Further on, the path brings you to the foot of a short rock face, from which an unmarked path branches off up to the right towards Koren pasture. Continue gently uphill along the left side of the rock face. The path then descends slightly and brings you to a pleasant little spring. The path then crosses to the left side of the spring and starts climbing again. It crosses a short strip of dwarf pine and then begins to climb across grassy slopes. From here the path is harder to follow, as it quickly disappears in the grass, but the waymarks, though sparser, will help you. After 20 minutes of climbing from the spring, the path brings you to a small wooden hut. Behind the hut, the path turns left into the forest and, after a short climb, joins the path from Kriška Planina (Krvavec). Turn sharp right and cross a strip of forest without any significant ascent or descent. The path then starts climbing across slopes covered with dwarf pine and a few trees. After 20 minutes of climbing, the gradient eases and you see the herdsman’s hut on Koren pasture ahead of you. The path then descends past the livestock watering place to the herdsman’s hut on the pasture.
You can extend the walk to the following destinations: Košutna pasture, Mokrica, Košutna, Kompotela, Vrh Korena, Kalška Gora, Kalški Greben

Further on, the path brings you to the foot of a short rock face, from which an unmarked path branches off up to the right towards Koren pasture (the marked path continues straight on). Take the right-hand path, which starts climbing diagonally across a scree slope partly overgrown with grass. After a few minutes, the path bears slightly right and crosses an indistinct, partly overgrown torrent bed. Immediately afterwards, the narrow path brings you into a strip of forest. Here two unmarked paths diverge. The left one, which is less distinct and which you take, leads to Koren pasture; the right one (straight on), which is somewhat better, leads to Medvedja Jama (Bear Cave). The left path then climbs up through the forest and after a few minutes brings you into a small valley. The narrow path, quite overgrown and faint in places, leads along the valley floor beside the torrent. The path becomes increasingly poor and brings you to another fork, which is barely noticeable. Take the very overgrown narrow path on the left, which leads through dwarf pine and, a little further on, across a meadow to Koren pasture.
PP: Route-finding is difficult, and I advise against taking this route in fog.
You can extend the walk to the following destinations: Košutna pasture (30 min), Mokrica (1 h 40 min), Košutna (1 h), Kompotela (1 h 10 min), Vrh Korena (1 h 25 min), Kalška Gora (3 h 40 min), Kalški Greben (2 h 40 min).

At the end of the car park, where the road turns left and a road to the nearby Jezerca pasture branches off to the right, you will notice red mountain signposts directing you straight ahead onto a marked footpath towards Kriška Planina, Vrh Korena, Košutna, Kompotela and Mokrica, which climbs across the grazing land of the pasture mentioned above. After a short climb you reach a cart track; follow it to the left, crossing the slopes of Kržišče (1,658 m). The track soon splits in two; continue straight on along the lower branch. At one point a fine view opens up towards Kranj, the Škofja Loka Hills and Storžič, after which the path begins to descend gently. A few more minutes’ walk brings you to the car park by the lower part of Kriška Planina.
From the car park, continue towards Koren pasture along a rougher gravel road that passes through an underpass beneath the ski piste. After the underpass, the marked path bears slightly left off the road and runs parallel to it beside a kind of avenue of spruce trees. When, after a few minutes of gentle climbing, you reach the eastern edge of Kriška Planina, where there is a small livestock watering place, continue slightly left over the pasture fence (to the right are Osredek pasture and Kamniški Vrh), still climbing gently in roughly the same direction. Further on, the path leaves the pasture for the somewhat steeper slopes of Krvavec, which you climb diagonally to a viewpoint with a fine view towards Kržišče (Pokovše), the Kamniški Vrh ridge, the Korošica valley, Velika Planina and the nearby Košutna and Veliki Zvoh.
From the viewpoint, which lies a few steps to the right of the path, begin descending more steeply towards a hunting lodge above the Korošica valley. When the descent ends and the path continues without major changes in altitude, you reach a visible but poorly marked fork, where a path branches off to the right to the hunting lodge mentioned above and on towards the Korošica valley and the Kamniška Bistrica valley. At this fork, continue slightly left and begin climbing gently through the forest. The path soon leaves the forest for scrub and dwarf pine, then gradually leads you over the pasture fence to the next unmarked fork, which lies right in the middle of a sharp right-hand bend. From this hairpin, an unmarked narrow path continues straight ahead towards the Razor saddle (the saddle between Krvavec and Veliki Zvoh); continue right along the path, which remains marked. A short diagonal climb follows, and the path brings you to the southern part of Koren pasture, from where a fine view opens up over the central part of the pasture and the surrounding peaks. From the southern part of the pasture, a short descent leads to the nearby herdsman’s hut, which stands in the central part of Koren pasture.
