The area of today’s municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem holds many traces of its former inhabitants.

Churches
Few places pack so many sights, so much cultural heritage and such natural beauty into so small an area as Cerklje na Gorenjskem.
Many villages are defined by their churches, which bear witness to the rich history and cultural heritage of the area below Krvavec. One of the most important is the Church of the Annunciation in Adergas, which together with the former Dominican convent of Velesovo is one of the most prominent religious sights in the municipality. The late Baroque church is adorned with seven altarpieces by the renowned Austrian Baroque painter Johann Martin Schmidt. A particular treasure is the pilgrimage statue of Mary with Jesus, considered the oldest surviving statue of Mary in Slovenia.
The parish Church of the Assumption of Mary is the largest church in the municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem. It stands in a prominent position in the centre of Cerklje, where historians believe the first church stood as early as the 9th century.
Many churches in the surrounding villages and on the slopes of Krvavec complete the religious landscape of the municipality. Each, with its own history, architecture and artistic features, is part of the rich heritage of the Cerklje valley.
