By electric minibus towards a sustainable future for the Kamnik–Savinja Alps
Dvor Jezeršek, 18 June 2025 – With today’s press conference and study tour, the new season of the tourist service Hop on – Hop off around the Kamnik–Savinja Alps officially got under way. This year it brings an important new feature – for the first time ever, passengers will be carried in an electric minibus. This is a decisive step towards sustainable tourism, nature conservation and an improved user experience.
Opening at Dvor Jezeršek
The event took place in the pleasant surroundings of Dvor Jezeršek in Cerklje na Gorenjskem, where those present were welcomed by Andreja Ravnihar Megušar, acting director of the Cerklje Tourism Board.
Round table: a focus on cooperation
This was followed by a round table with the following participants:
- Mr Andrej Karničar, Mayor of the Municipality of Jezersko,
- Ms Urša Volk, director of Vizije mobilnosti d.o.o.,
- Mr Rok Teul, Rekreacijsko-turistični park Jezersko (Jezersko Recreation and Tourism Park),
- Ms Sara Bitenc, coordinator of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps Association.
Andrej Karničar, Mayor of the Municipality of Jezersko, highlighted the importance of looking beyond administrative boundaries:
“Seeing the Kamnik–Savinja Alps as a shared space is key to the development of the region and of individual communities. Visitors do not recognise municipal boundaries – they exist only in our heads. We all face similar challenges: heavy traffic, pressure on the environment, infrastructure issues. If we as local communities cooperate, talk to one another and share information, we can find effective solutions much more easily.”
The new Hop on – Hop off season
Upgrades to the Hop on – Hop off service were also presented. This year it will run from 21 June to 14 September, with two trips a day on a circular route linking Kamnik, Komenda, Cerklje, Preddvor, Jezersko, Solčava and Luče.
The use of an electric vehicle, an online booking system and an emphasis on environmental responsibility follow the goals of green tourism, ensuring a pleasant experience for visitors and a smaller impact on the environment.
The study tour
The conference was followed by a study tour for the media, during which participants stopped at various points along the Hop on – Hop off route:
- Grad Dvor Preddvor (Dvor Castle, Preddvor),
- Pr’Vernk organic farm,
- the tufa-forming spring in Jezersko,
- Gradišnik tourist farm in Matkov Kot,
- a presentation of the Beer and Freedom Trail (Pot piva in svobode) and a tasting of local beers.
A shared vision for a sustainable future
The event confirmed once again that coordinated cooperation is the key to successful sustainable development, greater recognition of the region and a high-quality experience in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps.
