Join us for our traditional “Health Promotion Day”

“Health Promotion Day” is organised and prepared by the Health Promotion Centre of the Kranj Health Centre. A range of professionals will be on hand: nurses, physiotherapists, kinesiologists, dietitians and psychologists. In every municipality we will set up a market of healthy opportunities, aimed at recognising the important factors that affect our quality of life and, consequently, our health. At the market we will actively, and with plenty of good cheer, give each individual our full attention, with advice, measurements, workshops, new knowledge, conversations and guidance for a healthy lifestyle.

At the market of healthy opportunities we will carry out blood pressure measurements and body composition analysis, and test grip strength, balance and aerobic endurance.

Registered nurses will carry out a basic health check using a questionnaire on each person’s state of health and physical activity; kinesiologists and physiotherapists will test physical fitness and advise on suitable physical activity; dietitians will interpret the body composition report; and psychologists will inform visitors about the workshops we run at the Kranj Health Promotion Centre and advise them on the programmes best suited to them that they can join. It will also be possible to arrange a more in-depth individual consultation with any of the professionals at the Kranj Health Centre. We will do our best to ensure that the event takes place in a pleasant atmosphere and in all weather conditions, as indoor premises are available in case of bad weather.

At “Health Promotion Day”, activities will also aim, among other things, to raise awareness of osteoporosis among the general public. Community nurses will carry out Frax calculations. Frax is a simple tool for assessing the risk of osteoporotic fractures. The risk scale has three levels: low, moderate and high risk. Placement on the scale depends on sex, age, body weight, height, smoking status, use of glucocorticoids, previous fractures, a family history of hip fracture, rheumatoid arthritis, secondary osteoporosis and alcoholism.

We will also be joined by Ljudska univerza Kranj (Kranj adult education centre), which will present the activities of the Dementia-Friendly Points, run brain-training exercises (“umovadba”) and a “laughter is the best medicine” activity, and provide information on how to take part in their programmes and projects.

Everyone who would like to take a step towards a healthier lifestyle is welcome at “Health Promotion Day”, whatever their level of fitness, as all activities are adapted to each person’s abilities and state of health.

A mentor and consultant for doTerra essential oils will present how essential oils can be used in everyday life. Essential oils support our emotions, ease discomfort and contribute to a greater sense of wellbeing. With Maja, you will discover which essential oils can support your current weak points. She will be with us in Kranj, Preddvor, Šenčur, Cerklje and Jezersko.

The Lekarna pri kranjskem Orlu pharmacy will be with us in Kranj on 15 May 2024, presenting Microlife devices together with the company Salvusmed; in the afternoon they will be joined by the company Alkaloid with samples of food supplements.

The Šola zdravja (School of Health) Society will start the day with exercises, so that we are ready for the further challenges of Health Promotion Day. At their stand you will find all the information on where and when you can join their regular exercise sessions. They will be with us in Kranj, Naklo, Preddvor, Šenčur, Cerklje and Jezersko.

The Gorenjska Coronary Society, which brings together patients with cardiovascular diseases and their families, will present its activities. They will be with us in Kranj, Naklo, Preddvor, Šenčur and Cerklje.

The Kranj Osteoporosis Patients’ Society will measure bone density at the heel using ultrasound. It will be with us in Kranj, Preddvor, Naklo, Šenčur and Jezersko.

The Fibromyalgia Society brings together patients with fibromyalgia and patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). It will present its activities at its stand and will be with us in Kranj, Naklo, Preddvor, Šenčur, Cerklje and Jezersko.

Kranj City Library will prepare a selection of books that you can borrow and that contain useful information on building a healthier lifestyle. The list of books will be printed on bookmarks, which will stay with you whenever you read.

The company Microlife will present blood pressure monitors and carry out blood pressure measurements. They will be with us in Kranj, Šenčur and Jezersko.

The Kranj Centre for Sustainable Mobility will introduce you to the Gorenjska Bike bike rental system. You will also be able to try out an e-bike and a city bike. We will look at how a bike is put together, what you need to watch out for (safety) and how to change an inner tube as quickly and easily as possible. You will be able to bring your own bikes for a quick check. They will be with us in Naklo, Cerklje and Preddvor.

The “Health Promotion Days” will also offer content and activities for children and teenagers. For children attending nursery, the topics will include handwashing and hand hygiene, an introduction to the work of paramedics, sun protection, first aid for bee stings, tick removal and more. For schoolchildren in years 1 to 5, there will be content on how our body is built and how it works, the healthy plate and injury prevention. For teenagers from year 6 upwards, there will be content on growing up, skincare, and peer and online bullying. In addition to the health-related content, there will be activities for children and teenagers: a quiz with prizes and, if the weather is fine, a wheel of fortune.

Dental health education and prevention are part of the preventive activities for children and teenagers, aimed at maintaining and restoring oral health. To provide as many children and teenagers as possible, and above all their parents, with the right information, the Health Promotion Days offer an excellent opportunity for: learning about the importance of oral health and correct oral hygiene, presenting suitable oral hygiene aids, demonstrating correct tooth brushing on models, information for children and teenagers with orthodontic braces, help and advice on proper oral hygiene, and presenting a new picture book created together with the VUZOM-ZD Kranj team (Health Promotion Centre), entitled Z OLIJEM IN IVO V ZOBNEM MESTU (WITH OLI AND IVA IN TOOTH TOWN), which is already available in all libraries across Slovenia. Visitors will be able to try our wheel of fortune, where we will test their knowledge of oral hygiene and dental prevention.
