Cerklje is home to a descendant of the world’s oldest grapevine!
On Friday, 10 March 2023, Nace’s Vine was pruned for the fifth time in the garden of the Birthplace of Ignacij Borštnik in Cerklje na Gorenjskem. It is a descendant of the world’s oldest grapevine – the 450-year-old modra kavčina vine from Lent in Maribor, which is officially listed in Guinness World Records as the oldest noble grapevine in the world.
The important task was carried out by Davorin Slejko, president of the Mladovita society, Alojz Jenuš – Slavek, keeper of Maribor’s Old Vine, and Ivan Kropivnik, caretaker of Nace’s Vine in Cerklje. The event was also attended by Dane Novak, custodian of the Borštnik Homestead, who opened it by welcoming everyone present. A short cultural programme was provided by the folk musicians Ljudski godci Cerkljanski gavnarji.
Everyone made light work of it! 😀
