Highlights of the lace and bobbin lace exhibition
This weekend, 2 and 3 September 2023, Cerklje hosted an exhibition of bobbin lace and lacework prepared by the Klekljarice Lastovke lacemakers from Cerklje. The exhibition took place at Petrovc House and, between 10.00 and 18.00, attracted more than 160 visitors. Visitors had the opportunity to discover more than 300 unique pieces of bobbin lace and lacework, created by Klekljarice Lastovke with their talent and dedication to this art. The pieces were not confined to the Gallery on the ground floor of Petrovc House but were also displayed in the museum room on the 1st floor, opposite the library.
The exhibition featured pieces ranging from practical to decorative lace, including doilies, jewellery in the form of bracelets and necklaces, and decorative patterns in various colours. Special emphasis was also placed on live bobbin lacemaking demonstrations, which allowed visitors to become acquainted with this magical art up close. Slovenian bobbin lacemaking is registered as an important element of intangible cultural heritage, passed down from generation to generation.
Alojzija Mrgole, leader of the lacemaking group, said that Klekljarice Lastovke were extremely pleased with the exhibition. The event was an excellent opportunity to promote their work and to preserve valuable cultural heritage.
For those who would like to continue exploring the art of bobbin lacemaking, the good news is that you can watch the Lastovke group’s lacemaking demonstrations every Monday from 17:30 to 19:30 in the Museum Room on the 1st floor of Petrovc House in Cerklje. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who would like to learn bobbin lacemaking skills or simply gain a better understanding of this wonderful art.
Keeping this tradition alive is key to preserving our cultural heritage, which will surely inspire many generations to come. With their exhibition and dedication to this art, Klekljarice Lastovke have taken an important step in this direction.
