Highlights from the May Cerklje Market

On Saturday, 18 May, the May edition of the Cerklje Market took place in front of Davorin Jenko Primary School in Cerklje, from 9 am to 12 noon. Members of the Folklora Cerklje cultural society made sure there was plenty going on, and the brass band also played for us.

One of the highlights of this market was the first-ever seedling and seed swap, which met with an exceptional response from visitors. Seeds of local varieties of beans, tomatoes, butternut squash, melons and other vegetables changed hands. “We will certainly hold the swap again next year,” said its initiator, Danica Kuhar. The weather was kind to us, too.

Numerous local producers presented a wide range of products at the market:

  • Čebelarstvo Franci Strupi with a variety of honey products.
  • Piščančereja Galjot with homemade noodles and pasta, meat loaf, pâtés, eggs and pickled quail eggs.
  • Unikati Nati, Nataša Pezdir, presented ceramics such as cups, mugs, trays and cups decorated with saints.
  • Domače čarovnije, Umetniško ustvarjanje with products made from clay pots, handmade puppets from recycled materials and artistic paintings.
  • Čebelarstvo Pr' Špan offered honey, freeze-dried fruit and honey blends.
  • Čebelarstvo Jelenc with honey products.
  • Šivarija Marija with children's clothing and various textile accessories.
  • EA Šport delighted visitors with popcorn and candyfloss.
  • Branko Gorše with traditional woodenware (suha roba) from Ribnica, especially eye-catching wooden loungers.
  • Elvira Kralj with crocheted and bobbin-lace items.

Alongside the familiar stallholders, this time they were joined by LOMM from Zalog, who make slippers and leather sliders, and the company Mokar, Tilen Zajec s.p., which offered organic fertilisers, pest repellents and a variety of seedlings and seeds.

See you at the next market on 22 June.

Everyone is welcome!
