Development of sustainable tourism in the municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem
In 2019, the Cerklje Tourism Board, in cooperation with the Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem, took active steps towards obtaining the Slovenia Green Destination certificate within the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism, which is awarded by the Slovenian Tourist Board and is based on the idea of sustainable tourism.
The term ‘sustainable tourism’ is today certainly one of the most widely used concepts in the tourism industry and is closely linked to the term ‘sustainable development’. According to one definition, sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to enjoy the same quality of life as we do, or an even better one.
Sustainable tourism is therefore tourism that can be maintained in a given area indefinitely without conditions deteriorating. It helps to preserve the diversity of plant and animal life, respects cultural heritage and, at the same time, supports economic success.
By obtaining the Slovenia Green Destination certificate, we want to let domestic and international guests know that preserving our natural and cultural heritage is an important priority in our municipality and that here they can enjoy clean, unspoilt nature.
