One of the largest carnival parades in Gorenjska (Upper Carniola) is now behind us – members of the Godlarji Society from Šenčur spent almost four months preparing it. We saw 21 floats with more than 300 participants. For 35 years now, they have been delighting us with their rich collection of fantastic characters. The event was hosted by Franc Pestotnik - Podokničar.
On Saturday, 1 March, in glorious weather, the Šenčurski Godlarji staged a spectacular carnival parade. Visitors in imaginative masquerade costumes also lent the Godlarji a hand in chasing away the winter. More than one thousand two hundred of them gathered in front of Davorin Jenko Primary School.
As usual, the Šenčurski Godlarji found the inspiration for many of their floats in current social and political events. We saw everything from a circus, the Titanic, a butcher’s shop on wheels and a safari to the burial of Pust (the carnival figure), witches, Donald Trump with Melania and many more. As befits the Godlarji, they also struck up a tune on the Šenčur godla.
