EXHIBITION OF ADVENT CREATIONS – THE MAGIC OF ADVENT
On Friday 1 December 2023 from 15.00 to 19.00 and on Saturday 2 December from 9.00 to 13.00, the Petrovc House Gallery hosted the Magic of Advent (Čar adventa) exhibition, which, despite the rain, attracted more than 200 visitors and enriched the festive atmosphere in the town.
The main exhibitor was Marjan Česen, a renowned master of glass design, who was exhibiting in Cerklje again after more than 10 years. He displayed a variety of wreaths and arrangements made from natural materials with various glass details, such as glass snowflakes, stands, baubles, a dragonfly – the Cerklje Balkan goldenring (veliki studenčar) – and other wonderful creations. With their arrangements, the Lastovke group of bobbin lace makers from Cerklje showed that lace, too, can make beautiful Advent decorations. The neat, elegant and sophisticated lace on glass, the wonderful bobbin lace angels and other works of art were a real feast for the eyes.
The exhibition was further enlivened by other makers with their unique products, including the blacksmith Janez Globočnik with wonderful wrought-iron candlesticks, Polona Bradeško with creative Advent wreaths made even from pistachio shells and maize kernels, Urška Vidmar with unique wreaths made from denim and wool, as well as Ivan Kropivnik, Angelca Maček, Andreja Gjerkeš Čučnik, and Nataša Pezdir, known for her clay stands under the Unikati Nati brand. Also on display were items made by residents of the Taber care home together with children from the Davorin Jenko Primary School in Cerklje.
The Lastovke Cerklje lace makers attracted particular attention with their live demonstrations of the art of bobbin lacemaking, which also gave visitors the chance to learn how lace is made.
On Friday, as part of the St Nicholas Fair, visitors could buy honey products from Franc Strupi, while on Saturday they could get wonderful Advent wreaths made by Marta Jenko and her family.
The Magic of Advent exhibition enriched the festive atmosphere in Cerklje. Thank you to all the participating artists and visitors for an unforgettable experience that we created together.
Meanwhile, at the Cerklje Tourism Board we are already preparing for the nativity scene exhibition, which will take place from Wednesday to Saturday, 20 to 23 December.
