From the bronze to the silver label in the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism

In 2020, the Cerklje na Gorenjskem destination set out on the path of sustainable tourism by joining the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism. By obtaining the bronze SLOVENIA GREEN label, it expressed its commitment to continuous improvement in the field of sustainable tourism.

The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism, the national certification programme of the Slovenian Tourist Board (STO), sets destinations and providers the goal of sustainable development through a responsible attitude towards nature, the environment, the local economy and community life.

This year, 2023, Cerklje na Gorenjskem underwent a reassessment by the accredited partner Goodplace (Zavod tovarna trajnostnega turizma Goodplace) in accordance with strictly defined international criteria. This time the destination was assessed against the updated version of the Slovenia Green standard, which evaluates the sustainability performance of destinations in even greater depth. Despite this, the destination passed the assessment with flying colours in the end, which testifies to its successful work and commitment to sustainability.

We were particularly praised for our dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of hayracks (kozolci) and for the municipality’s efforts to create a unified appearance for the area. The second assessment resulted in the prestigious silver sustainability label, which marks an important milestone in the development of sustainable tourism in the Cerklje na Gorenjskem destination.

Obtaining the silver label is a recognition of our efforts so far and, at the same time, an incentive for the further sustainable development of tourism in the future.

“In Cerklje na Gorenjskem, we are committed to continuing to follow the high standards of the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism and to striving for an even more sustainable future for the destination,” said Polona Šafner, green coordinator at the Cerklje Tourism Board.
