The Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem celebrates its municipal holiday on 23 September, the anniversary of the death of the great stage actor Ignacij Borštnik, who was born in Cerklje. The ceremony was held on Friday, 25 September, at the Ignacij Borštnik Cultural Hall in Cerklje na Gorenjskem, with a smaller attendance owing to COVID-19. The awards and plaques were presented by the Mayor of the Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Franc Čebulj, who was also the keynote speaker at the event. He recalled the many recently completed projects, including the completion of the new health centre, the roundabout and the construction of the funeral chapel in Cerklje. Cerklje is once again as well kept as it was years ago, when it received high accolades for its tidiness. The programme was presented by Ana Jagodic Dovžan.
The Grand Plaque of the Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem went to Veronika Sirc, long-standing treasurer of the Pod lipo Adergas Cultural and Arts Society (KUD), who has been carrying out this work conscientiously for 54 years. The Small Plaque went to Marjan Luskovec from Grad, commander of Civil Protection for the Municipality of Cerklje since 2003 and a dedicated volunteer firefighter. He also served for 17 years as president of the Cerklje volunteer fire brigade (PGD Cerklje) and as vice-president of the Cerklje Firefighters’ Association.
The Municipality of Cerklje Award was also presented to the athletes of Atletski klub Cerklje (Cerklje Athletics Club) Lucija Kropar, Eva Rosulnik, Eva Boltežar, Paula Globočnik, Maja Boltežar and Živa Jerič. This year’s Municipality of Cerklje Prize went to the society Družinski in mladinski center (DMC) Cerklje (Family and Youth Centre) – Oratorij Cerklje, for twenty years of successful work and for encouraging volunteering among young people, with record attendance every year. Because of the COVID-19 situation, this year’s twentieth, anniversary oratory was held in virtual form. The award was accepted by Darko Košnik and Maruša Žlebir, who gave thanks for the awards on behalf of the recipients. The closing part of the programme was enlivened by Godba Cerklje (Cerklje Brass Band) under the direction of Tomaž Kukovič and by the reciters Angelca Maček and Anže Sirc from the Pod lipo Adergas Cultural and Arts Society.
