Presentation of the new culinary catalogue and tourist map of Cerklje
On Tuesday, 11 February 2025, in the unique setting of the Borštnik Cellar, we at the Cerklje Tourism Board were delighted to present two important new additions to the tourism promotion of our destination – the first culinary catalogue of Cerklje na Gorenjskem and a revamped tourist map.
The event brought together representatives of the tourism and hospitality sector, municipal councillors, local tourist guides and other interested parties, who together took a look at the two new publications and exchanged views on the importance of such content for the development of tourism.
On this occasion, we enjoyed a very special atmosphere, enriched by an outstanding performance by the opera singer Anton Habjan. His magnificent voice, which will also ring out in the sold-out Cultural Hall this weekend, left an unforgettable artistic impression. In addition, Dane Novak, the custodian of the Birthplace of Ignacij Borštnik, took us through the history of this famous building and its celebrated resident, the actor Ignacij Borštnik.
Two new publications – for hungry and curious visitors
The culinary catalogue, available in Slovenian and English, offers a comprehensive overview of the food and drink on offer in Cerklje, from traditional inns and tourist farms to contemporary culinary experiences. Across 20 pages, it brings together detailed descriptions of the hospitality providers, local gastronomic specialities and traditional recipes. It includes an address by Mayor Franc Čebulj and a foreword by the renowned ethnologist specialising in gastronomic heritage, Dr Janez Bogataj. The catalogue is divided into two sections – providers “up high” and providers “down in the lowlands”. It also highlights key culinary events such as Dinner on the Cable Car, Pokukajmo v špajzo, Gourmet Cup and the workshops at Dvor Jezeršek. Nor does it lack a recipe for the classic prata, which is typical of this area.
The revamped tourist map gives visitors a clear and easy-to-follow overview of the natural and cultural sights, hiking and cycling routes and other activities that Cerklje offers all year round. It includes detailed descriptions of sights such as Strmol Castle, the Češnjevek and Lahovče ponds, Hribar Villa and the Shepherd Gnomes’ Trail.
Both publications are designed to enhance the visitor experience and to promote local gastronomy and sustainable tourism. They are available at TIC Cerklje and on the website www.visitcerklje.si (opens in a new tab).
Pride and an invitation to taste
Opening the event, Polona Žumer Šafner, director of the Cerklje Tourism Board, stressed in her address the importance of food and drink as a key element of the tourist experience. “This catalogue is not just a list of hospitality providers – it is proof that our municipality has its own culinary story, one worth sharing, tasting and experiencing,” she said, highlighting the importance of supporting local restaurateurs and producers. Food and drink is, after all, an important link in every tourism product or visit.
We rounded off with a pleasant get-together and an exchange of impressions, and of course we raised a toast to the many satisfied guests whom Cerklje na Gorenjskem will continue to attract with its rich offer and genuine hospitality.
We would also like to point out that the costs of designing the catalogue and the revamped tourist map, including the photographs acquired, were partly co-financed by the Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) through the public call for co-financing activities to promote the tourism offer of leading tourist destinations in Slovenia in 2023 and 2024. Cerklje na Gorenjskem is one of 35 leading destinations in Slovenia, which gives us special status and significance in the national tourism landscape. We sincerely thank them for this.
