The bocce (balinanje) section of the Cerklje na Gorenjskem Pensioners’ Association, which has been active and successful for 15 years, organised the traditional “Jože’s Memorial” tournament on the last Friday in August at the Pod Jenkovo lipo bocce court in Dvorje, in memory of eleven late bocce players. Four teams from pensioners’ associations took part: Komenda, Šenčur and two teams from Cerklje. The competitors were welcomed by the president of the Cerklje Pensioners’ Association, Marta Hočevar. The bocce section in Cerklje, led by Vinko Janežič, has twenty active members and competes in a league made up of teams from nine municipalities in Gorenjska (Upper Carniola). This year’s league competition is not taking place because of the coronavirus. The tournament in Dvorje was won by Cerklje’s second team, who took home the coveted trophy, in the line-up of Dragica Romšak, Marjan Bernard, Rado Ropret and Ciril Kern. Second place went to the Komenda team, third to Cerklje’s first team, and the team from the Šenčur Pensioners’ Association (DU Šenčur) came fourth. The best three four-player teams received medals, presented by Vinko Janežič, president of the Cerklje Bocce Section. Players also competed for the title of the tournament’s best “pointer”, throwing closest into the circle, which was won by Milan Kolenko from Cerklje’s first team.
