With Christmas approaching comes a special anniversary, too: an incredible 800 years have passed since St Francis of Assisi first set up a nativity scene in the Italian town of Greccio. This lovely tradition is deeply rooted in our culture and every year brings warmth to the festive season.
Preparations are also under way for this year’s nativity scenes along the path from Poženik to Šenturška Gora. Last year the number of nativity scenes more than doubled, reaching no fewer than 72. Hoping to make this year’s number even better, we invite everyone who enjoys setting up nativity scenes to take the time to join in the creative spirit. The aim is for the nativity scenes not only to blend beautifully into their surroundings but also to respect nature and leave it untouched.
For those who would like to take part, a standard sign showing the name and place of residence of the person setting up the scene is available, and further information can be obtained by phone on 051 323 718 (Mira) – please call by 20 December. The nativity scenes will be set up in the week before Christmas, by 24 December 2023. New participants can choose their own spot. The organisers are striving to reach a three-digit number and believe that together we can achieve it.
The nativity scenes will be on display from Christmas Day until mid-January.
Join us in creating a festive atmosphere that will warm the hearts of all generations.
