On Saturday 12 September, the area below Jenkova lipa (Jenko’s Lime Tree) in Dvorje was once again full of sport and activity. A run through the streets of Dvorje was organised by the Rože Prezelj Athletics School (Atletska šola Rože Prezelj). It brought together pupils of Davorin Jenko Primary School, including those taking the elective subject Sport for Health, which is attended by pupils in grades 7 and 8.
This year, too, Cerklje Sports Day brought together sport, recreation, dance, socialising and a showcase of local societies and providers. Throughout the day, the varied programme offered activities for all generations, and visitors could watch performances, try their hand at various sports and visit the Cerklje Market. The sporting part of the day was marked by the Cerklje Run and Pumpaj Cerklje. On the Cerklje pump track, younger and older participants tested their skills on bikes and balance bikes, with the activity run by Rekreacijsko društvo Strmol (Strmol Recreation Society). The running part of the programme also drew in fitness enthusiasts and gave the morning its sporting buzz.
There was also plenty going on at the main venue below Jenkova lipa. Members of Plesni studio Špela (Špela Dance Studio) and AnimaBit Center gibanja (AnimaBit Movement Centre) gave dance performances, showing visitors some of their work and training programmes. Members of Karate klub Cerklje (Cerklje Karate Club) demonstrated Sankukai karate techniques, introducing visitors to this martial art. DJ Ambrož hosted the programme and provided the music.
Chess also had its place at the sports day. Šahovski klub Matemati (Matemati Chess Club) introduced visitors to the world of chess, so that among the many physical activities there was also a rather different sporting challenge.
Cerklje Market
The sporting events were accompanied by the Cerklje Market, which showcased local societies, organisations and providers. At the stalls, visitors could learn about their activities and products, pick up all kinds of information, and meet and chat with them in person.
This year's Cerklje Market featured the Cerklje Tourism Board, Kmetija Pr' Špan, Dekle z rožo, EA Šport, Cerklje Local Library, Rekreacijsko društvo Strmol, Karate klub Cerklje, Center gibanja AnimaBit, Plesni studio Špela and Šahovski klub Matemati. The mix of sporting activities, performances and the market made for a varied Saturday, with no shortage of opportunities to get moving, discover different activities and socialise.
Thank you to all the societies, organisations, providers, performers and volunteers who helped make the event happen, and of course to all the visitors who joined us below Jenkova lipa.
