23 September 2023 – A tribute to the municipal holiday
Despite the challenging weather, which forced us to cancel the Cerklje Market and the brass band’s performance, we spent an unforgettable day in Cerklje on 23 September 2023. We devoted it to exploring and preserving the rich cultural heritage of our town while also paying tribute to the municipal holiday.
At 9.00 we opened the doors to the exhibition entitled “Petrovc House Through Time”, prepared by members of the Liberius Club under the leadership of Daniela Močnik together with the Cerklje Tourism Board. In her address, Ms Močnik stressed that the exhibition was a tribute to the municipal holiday, highlighting the importance of raising awareness of rare skills, valuable crafts and cultural heritage, including through the European Heritage Days. She also focused on the history of Petrovc House, life in the past and the remarkable builders of Cerklje’s heritage. Petrovc House, which is entered in the cultural heritage register as a monument of local importance, was also paid a heartfelt tribute through this exhibition. The exhibition also included a collection of eight hanging display banners from the Gorenjska Museum, which were prepared more than ten years ago for its opening.
Ivan Kropivnik, a master of many skills and crafts, charmed us with his handmade wooden items, including hand-carved nativity scenes and cajne (traditional woven wooden baskets). We also viewed his impressive collection of antique objects, among them antique lanterns, scales, wood planes, a “cimereka”, a carbide bicycle lamp and many other curiosities from the past.
We rounded off the exhibition with a visit to the ethnological collection and the renovated archaeological collection on the 1st floor of Petrovc House.
After the culturally rich tour of Petrovc House, local tourist guide Simona Šunkar led us on to the Birthplace of Ignacij Borštnik. The open day at the Borštnik Homestead was an excellent opportunity to see the house up close while learning about the life, roles and work of this great artist. We were also welcomed by Danijel Novak, president of the Ignacij Borštnik Cultural Society and custodian of the lovely homestead, who treated us to fresh home-made potica (traditional nut roll). We also admired the renovated cellar rooms and were delighted by the cellar doors.
Both Daniela Močnik of the Liberius Club and Danijel Novak of the Ignacij Borštnik Cultural Society are pleased with the turnout for the exhibition and the open day.
Polona Šafner of the Cerklje Tourism Board shares their view. She does say, however, that she would rather the brass band had played for us than the weather had played tricks on us. 😊 As part of the Cerklje Market, we had an interesting accompanying programme for children – a presentation by Karate Club Cerklje, an obstacle course and prize games run by Athletics Club Cerklje, and a performance by Plesni studio Špela (Špela Dance Studio) – but unfortunately we had to cancel the entire programme due to the bad weather.
Despite the rain, we enjoyed a lovely municipal holiday full of interesting events and rich cultural content. We would like to thank everyone who joined us and helped to make this day special. See you tomorrow at the municipal celebration in Adergas!
So that you don’t miss a single event, we invite you to drop by Petrovc House and pick up the monthly calendar of events.
